Tea Cup Series 1
Fernando Oliveri
Fernando Oliveri (b. 1957. Montevideo, Uruguay) develops a practice centered on surface, structure, and controlled visual tension. His work transforms everyday objects into constructed systems where color, form, and material operate with precision. Through reduction and compositional discipline, Oliveri reinterprets familiar forms, allowing them to oscillate between representation and abstraction within a carefully balanced visual field.
The work operates through the transformation of a familiar object into a controlled visual construct. The cup retains its recognizability, yet its scale challenges the viewer’s habitual perception, shifting it from an intimate object to a dominant presence. This displacement introduces a spatial ambiguity, where the object appears both grounded and destabilized by the surrounding structure. Folded planes generate rhythm and tension, reinforcing a system that prioritizes relationships over representation. Through this framework, Oliveri redirects attention from the object itself to the conditions of its perception. The image unfolds gradually, revealing how scale, structure, and surface redefine the boundaries between object, image, and constructed space.
