Barrier Multiple realities
Paul Amundarain
Paul Amundarain (Caracas, 1987) explores the urban pulse of contemporary life through a refined synthesis of geometry, repetition, and material experimentation. His practice reinterprets metropolitan textures—grids, fragments, barriers, and chromatic fields—transforming them into precise, rhythmic compositions. Moving fluidly between painting, sculpture, and textile work, Amundarain constructs visual systems that reflect on order, disruption, and the coded structures that shape modern environments.
This work presents a rhythmic system of vertical panels that alternate between mirrored surfaces and painted segments, producing an image that shifts with every movement of the viewer. The black-on-light graphic field—broken apart and distributed across the modules—interacts with the reflections captured by the polished faces, where the surrounding space becomes an active part of the composition. The result is a visually unstable and vibrant terrain in which geometry, seriality, and motion converge, revealing how perception continually constructs and dissolves the image in real time.
