Tea Cup Series 1
Fernando Oliveri
Fernando Oliveri (b. 1957. Montevideo, Uruguay) develops a practice centered on surface, structure, and controlled visual tension. His work transforms everyday objects into constructed systems where color, form, and material operate with precision. Through reduction and compositional discipline, Oliveri reinterprets familiar forms, allowing them to oscillate between representation and abstraction within a carefully balanced visual field.
In this work, a domestic object is isolated and reconfigured within a structured field of color and folded surfaces. The cup, rendered with precision, contrasts with the geometric background, where repetition and segmentation create a controlled visual rhythm. Its scale disrupts expectation, displacing the familiar association of the object with intimacy and smallness. The interaction between the smooth volume of the cup and the articulated planes behind it produces a tension between stability and fragmentation. The result is an image that balances clarity and disruption, allowing perception to shift between recognition and formal abstraction.
